About CowScale
CowScale is a mobile-first cattle measurement and weight-estimation app that turns a smartphone camera into a practical livestock-weighing tool. Instead of loading animals onto a mechanical scale — which is stressful for the animal, time-consuming, and often impractical in the field — a farmer or vet simply captures a side-on photo of the cow. The app then uses the standard heart-girth formula, (heart girth² × body length) ÷ 11877, to produce an instant live-weight estimate in kilograms.
Two measurement paths are built in. A built-in, zoom-aware on-screen ruler lets you calibrate once against a known reference (or a shooting distance) and then tap two points on the photo to read heart girth and body length directly. For faster work, an AI vision model analyses the photo and pre-fills the measurements, which you can verify or adjust before saving. Every reading is stored privately against the animal's tag, building a weight history you can review over time, and a per-device calibration percentage lets you nudge estimates to match your own known weights.
CowScale is designed for cattle farmers, ranchers, veterinarians, and livestock handlers who need a quick, repeatable weight guide for feeding decisions, medication dosing, growth tracking, and market preparation. It is built as a companion — not a replacement — for a certified livestock scale, and every estimate is clearly labelled as a guide.
CowScale is built and maintained by the CowScale team on the Base44 platform. We are focused on making practical, affordable technology for everyday livestock work, and we welcome feedback from the field to keep improving accuracy and usability.
